Course Hours: 1,200 clock hours

Full Time: 30 hours weekly

Part Time: 20 hours weekly

Evening: 16 hours weekly

At Divine Barber & Beauty Institute the Cosmetology and Hairstyling course consists of 1200 clock hours as regulated by the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling. The program objective of the complete Cosmetology and Hairstyling curriculum is to provide the student candidate with training adequate to pass the state board exam, to become licensed, and to perform all duties required under such license to secure employment at an entry level. Classes begin on the first Monday of every month unless otherwise scheduled. Successful completion of the course qualifies you to apply for a State Cosmetologist Hairstylist’s license. Full transfer credit may be allowed for previous training, subject to the regulations of the New Jersey State Board. During the first 600 hours, your training is spent in classroom work consisting of lecture, demonstrations, practice on mannequins and evaluations. Upon completion of 600 hours, all assigned work, a doctor’s clarification, and upon recommendation of your instructor, you will advance to the senior class and be permitted to practice on clients. All of your remaining hour will be spent on practical work, additional advancement lectures, class projects and complete subject reviews, as well as salon management techniques. Obtaining a Cosmetology and Hairstyling license allows you to obtain an occupation in the following fields; Salon owner, Stylist, Manicurist, Barber, Makeup Artist, as well as several other jobs. Throughout the course, individual student will be graded on exams and practical work using the following scale:

Excellent A 90% – 100%

Very Good B 80% – 89%

Good C 75% – 79%

Unsatisfactory D 74% - Below

Course Objective: The primary objective of the Cosmetology curriculum is to prepare students for the New Jersey State Licensing Examination to become a Licensed Cosmetologist. The complete program consists of 1200 hours of instructions including training in the advanced hairstyling and haircutting techniques, skin care, make-up artistry, and other related subjects. Academic & Practical Learning methods include Discussion, questioning and answering, demonstration, cooperative learning, problem solving, interactive lecture, individualized instruction, student & classroom presentations, labs & student salon activities.
