MANICURE COURSE OUTLINE

Course Hours: 300 clock hours

Part Time: 16 hours weekly

Evening: 16 hours weekly

Classification of Instructional Program (CIP 12.0410)

At Divine Barber & Beauty Institute the manicure course consists of 300 clock hours as regulated by the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling. The objective of the manicure course is providing the student with training adequate to pass the State Board exam, to become licensed, and to perform all the duties required under such license and secure employment at an entry level. Classes begin on the first Monday of every month unless otherwise scheduled. Successful completion of the program qualifies you to apply for a New Jersey State manicurist’s license. Transfer students are accepted for a maximum of 100 hours and are subject to the regulations of the New jersey State Board.

During the first 150 hours, your hour spent in classroom work which consisting of lectures, demonstrations, “hands-on practice” and evaluations.

Upon completion of 150 hours, all assigned work and upon recommendation of your instructor, you will advance to senior status, and be permitted to practice on clients. All of your remaining hour will be on practical work, additional lectures, demonstrations and complete subject/theory review. Obtaining a license in Manicuring will allow you to obtain occupations as Manicurist, Pedicurist and Waxing Specialist. Throughout the program students will be graded on exams and practical work using the following scale: 

Excellent A 90% – 100%

Very Good B 80% – 89%

Good C 75% – 79%

Unsatisfactory D 74% - Below

Course Objective: The objective of the Manicuring Curriculum is to train students in nail structures and manicuring techniques. Advanced training is given in the areas of sculptured nails (application and maintenance), nail wrapping, application for ready to wear nails, air brushing, nail designs and pedicuring techniques. The New Jersey Board of Cosmetology & Hairstyling requires an examination to be taken to qualify for licensing. Academic & Practical Learning methods include Discussion, questioning and answering, demonstration, cooperative learning, problem solving, interactive lecture, individualized instruction, student & classroom presentations, labs & student salon activities.
